I recently watched this documentary about Dieter Rams, considered one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. His work has had a massive impact on the design industry, and he’s known for his ten principles of good design, which have become a guiding light for many designers worldwide.

The first principle of good design is innovation. Rams believed a product should be designed to be valuable and original, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. When I started my design career, I was focused on creating practical and functional products. But after reading Rams’ work, I realized innovation was just as important. I began approaching my design projects with a new sense of creativity and curiosity, constantly asking myself, “What if we did it this way, to make it easier to understand for our users?” This mindset has led me to create some of my most successful and groundbreaking designs.

One product that embodies this principle is the Swiss Army Knife. This iconic tool is designed with various functions in mind, from cutting and slicing to opening bottles and screwing in screws.
