Step into Web 3.0

step-into-web-3.0

Great to be back with this month’s blog. Let’s talk about something that feels a bit like sci-fi but is already real life: our digital identity.

This is one of those shifts that might change the entire game. Like when we moved from dial-up to broadband. Or when social media quietly took over our attention spans. AI can now mimic just about anything, your face, your voice, even your style of writing. Which makes you wonder… if everything can be faked, then how do we prove what’s real?

Today, I want to blend design, creativity, and some practical thinking to dig into one big question: Who are we online?

Why this matters for you as a maker

Web 3.0 isn’t just crypto coins and NFT hype. At its core, it’s about giving people ownership. Of their data. Their digital presence. Even their contributions to networks. When you show up, share knowledge, or build something, you should get more than a like. You should have a stake in what you helped grow. That’s the promise of these new systems. We’ll transact, collaborate, and build inside networks that are open, and owned by the people who use them.

You’ll need new skills for this future:

  • Verifying your digital identity
  • Understanding how ownership works in open networks
  • Designing for trust when everything can be faked

I was deep into Web 3.0 a few months ago, and I started noticing it: platforms giving users real incentives just for being there. Blockchains. Governance rights. Content royalties. These weren’t just buzzwords, they were signals of a shift. We’re moving toward a more transparent internet. One where participation has upside. And design needs to reflect that.

Here’s a video from Yat Siu, the founder of Animoca Brands. His company is one of the fastest growing in Web3, and honestly, his business insights are pure gold. Enjoy! Watch the here

And if you’re curious where this bigger shift is headed, check out world.org, a vision of what’s coming.

We’re not just designing interfaces anymore. We’re designing for proof. For trust. For ownership. That’s the skillset we’ll need next.
